Who Qualifies?

🏢

Remote Employees

Employees of non-Cyprus companies who can prove remote-work permission, foreign employer details, and net monthly income of at least EUR 3,500.

💻

Freelancers

Independent professionals with foreign clients only, clean contract and bank trails, and no Cyprus-client work hidden inside the file.

🚀

Founders

Owners of foreign companies who can connect the applicant, company, and foreign revenue stream through a coherent remote-work record.

Important: This is not a Cyprus local work permit. If the contracts, invoices, or business model point toward Cyprus employers or Cyprus clients, the digital nomad route starts to break down.

Required Documents

1

Valid passport and last-entry page copy

Passport or other travel document with at least 3 months of validity from application submission, plus a copy of the page showing the last entry into Cyprus.

2

Foreign remote-work proof

Employment contract plus employer confirmation for remote work abroad, or service contracts and a self-employment confirmation showing the project does not concern Cyprus-based work.

3

Net-income proof and 6-month bank statements

Proof of salary payment showing at least EUR 3,500/month net plus detailed bank statements for the last 6 months. If net income is not explicit, an affirmation may be needed.

4

Criminal-record certificate

Original criminal-record certificate from the country of origin or the country of residence, as applicable.

5

Medical tests

Blood analysis results for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, plus a chest x-ray for tuberculosis; children under 15 use the specific children’s testing rules.

6

Health insurance (Plan A)

Health-insurance certificate for medical care covering inpatient and outpatient care and transportation of corpse.

7

Accommodation evidence

Title deed or rental agreement for a house or apartment, duly stamped where required, plus the corresponding utility bill for the main applicant.

8

Non-Cyprus-work affirmation

Affirmation that neither the applicant nor accompanying family members will provide work, services, or a project to an employer or clients established in Cyprus.

9

Family civil documents where applicable

Marriage or civil-union certificate for a spouse / partner, birth certificates for children, and any custody or consent documents required for accompanying minors.

Common risk: The Cyprus file is not only about the headline income number. The document pack also expects 6 months of bank statements, medical tests, housing proof with a utility bill, and an affirmation against Cyprus-based work.

Application Process

1

Confirm route fit and entry posture

Same day

Check that you are a third-country remote worker using foreign employers or foreign clients only, and confirm how you will enter Cyprus before the permit filing.

2

Build the remote-work and net-income file

1-2 weeks

Collect the foreign-work contracts, remote-work confirmations, net-income proof, and 6 months of bank statements needed to show at least EUR 3,500/month net.

3

Prepare the health, police, and housing documents

1-3 weeks

Arrange the criminal-record certificate, medical tests, health insurance, rental agreement or title deed, utility bill, and any required certified translations.

4

File in Nicosia within the official window

Appointment dependent

Submit the application at the Migration Department in Nicosia within 3 months of arrival, personally or through an authorised representative, with all required fees paid.

5

Biometrics and examination

5-7 weeks

Biometrics can be captured with the filing or afterward. The official page currently says examination takes 5-7 weeks for a complete application.

6

Renewal planning

At least 1 month before expiry

If you will stay longer, file the renewal at least 1 month before expiry with updated work, income, insurance, and housing proof that still matches the route.

Cost Planning

ItemCost
Temporary residence permit issuance or renewalEUR 70
Aliens’ Registry registration on first registrationEUR 70
Medical tests and chest x-rayEUR Varies
Official translations / certification / legalizationEUR Varies
Health-insurance premiumEUR Varies

The official Migration Department page currently lists EUR 70 for issuance or renewal of the temporary residence permit and EUR 70 for first registration in the Aliens’ Registry. Build extra budget for medical tests, official translations, certification, and insurance because those are outside the state fees.

Benefits

  • Cyprus publishes a dedicated digital nomad route for third-country remote workers using foreign employers or foreign clients only.
  • The current official materials publish a clear main-applicant income floor of EUR 3,500/month net and a stated family uplift formula.
  • The Migration Department currently lists an examination time of 5-7 weeks for a complete file.
  • Spouse / partner and children can obtain residence for the same period as the principal applicant, subject to their own document sets.

Important Restrictions

  • You must not work for a Cyprus-based employer or provide services to Cyprus-based clients under this route.
  • The filing must be made within 3 months of arrival in Cyprus, through the Migration Department in Nicosia or via an authorised representative.
  • The public document list expects medical tests, certified translations, and housing proof, not only the income threshold.
  • Family members do not receive the right to work or perform economic activity in Cyprus through this route.
  • Do not treat broader Cyprus tax incentives or cross-border travel assumptions as settled just because the residence permit is approved.

Family and Dependants

Published income formula

Cyprus publicly adds 20% for a spouse or partner and 15% for each child. Use the uplift before you assume the main-applicant budget is enough.

Dependent planning

Prepare marriage, civil-union, birth, custody, and consent records early. Family files often slow down on certification, translation, and consistency rather than on the headline threshold alone.

Work-rights caution

Family members can reside in Cyprus for the same period, but the public route page says they do not get the right to work or perform economic activity in Cyprus under this digital nomad route.

Tax and Stay Caveats

Official route note starts with 183 days

The official Cyprus digital nomad page says that if you stay in Cyprus for periods totalling more than 183 days in the same tax year, you are considered a Cyprus tax resident provided you are not tax resident elsewhere.

Broader Cyprus tax planning is separate

Do not merge this route with wider non-dom or relocation-tax marketing without a separate review. The current public digital nomad pack does not settle those issues for you.

Longer stays need cleaner recordkeeping

If you may renew, keep day counts, housing dates, and the foreign-income story consistent. Immigration approval and tax treatment are not the same question.

Tax caveat: Use the Cyprus checker to test route fit, not to treat the residence permit itself as tax advice.

Why Cyprus for Digital Nomads?

🧾

Published Fees and Timing

Cyprus publicly states the current permit fee, first-registration fee, and a 5-7 week review window, which helps planning.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Published Family Formula

The route does not hide dependent budgeting behind pure discretion. The spouse and child income uplifts are published.

🌞

Mediterranean EU Base

Cyprus combines an EU legal base, English-friendly business use, and a strong remote-work lifestyle pull in the Eastern Mediterranean.

📊

Good Fit for Clean Foreign Income

Applicants with a straightforward foreign salary or foreign-client revenue trail can present a clean story if the Cyprus-only work restriction is respected.

Check Cyprus Route Fit Before You File

Use the live Cyprus screening flow first, then line up the net-income proof, non-Cyprus-work evidence, medical packet, and Nicosia filing timing before you commit to submission.
